Report Invasive Species

Reporting observations of invasive species with the applications below will ensure that the data is centralized by the Montana Natural Heritage Program as quickly as possible. Alerts are then sent to invasive species managers to make sure they are aware of these reports.

Reporting aquatic invasive species found on vessels or property and feral swine present on private or public property is Montana law (MCA 80-7-1012, MCA 81-29-103)!

  • Report Aquatic Invasive Species to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks at (406) 444-2440 or using this online form
  • Report Feral Swine to the Montana Department of Livestock at (406) 444-2976

Don't like to use applications, but you have observed a potential invasive species that you are concerned about? Give us a call at (406) 444-3989 or send us an email at bmaxell@mt.gov

iNaturalist

iNaturalist overview image

iNaturalist is a widely used global platform that allows users to report observations of any species using photos or sound recordings. The application includes algorithms that suggest species identifications, which users can accept or provide their own identification. Members of the iNaturalist community, including global experts in specific species groups, can then verify or refine these identifications. The following resources were created to help users get started with iNaturalist:
